The Airtel Company has setup 50 Towers in Garo Hills as part of Digital India Program

Tura, September 15: The last Disha meeting was a held today at Resubelpara in North Garo Hill District. During the meeting, the MP Mr Conrad K Sangma  shared his concerns regarding the low man-days in the present quarter for the District and the reduced capacity for work in the in the following quarters due to the elections.

He has also suggested the setting up of Disha Committees that would look into MGNREGS so that the man-days can be considered with greater focus and the status improved. He also suggested that the BDOs would organize fortnightly meetings to set targets and evaluate the progress of the VECs and Gram Sevaks.

While discussing Digital India Program, he shared that there were 50 towers erected in last year in North Garo Hills by Airtel. He also mentioned that Garo Hills is one of the special category regions for Airtel.

He emphasized on the need to hold awareness programs with respect to the new regulations put in place for the Stone Quarries. He feels these quarry’s obstruction has been impacting the implementation of most of the central government scheme.

At the Disha presentations, he appreciated efforts of building a water harvesting structure at Upper Bolmedang in convergence with the Agriculture Depertment He felt that such attractive structures can also be used as tourist spots.

Public hearing a concern brought forward was of the poor Road connectivity in the Damit-Dangra route. It is under PMGSY and was sanctioned in 2012-13 by only 40-50%. The officials assured that the necessary steps had been taken and that the road would be completed by December this year.

The  MP also suggested that there should be a phase-wise target set which might help the project to be completed on time. He shared his plans to set up committees from the Disha Members to look into the progress of the PMGSY more closely.

Another concern shared was of the poor connectivity in the region. He also appreciated the project of Building a dam across Didram river to connect Chichoteheng VEC and Mikkasimdam VEC at NH 51.

He offered to contribute to such projects under MPLAD Scheme as well. In another instance during the Public hearing, the MP called an official to expidate the release of the Disaster Fund for damages to a house in the 2014.
