The ANVC asked MHA to give proper definition on adult suffrage in the Sixth Schedule area

Shillong, June 21: The Core Committee form by the central government to finalise the Agreed text peace settlement sign between the Union Government, State Government of Meghalaya and the ANVC in September 2014 was held today at the National Capital New Delhi.

Speaking to SP News Agency over phone Mr Tengsak Momin who is one of the members in the core committee said that, most of the demand in the agreement is on the final touched but there are some demands which need more deliberation before they come into any final decision.

The hurdle that is still pending is on the adult suffrage, from the representation of the ANVC in the core Committee has asked the Ministry Home Affair to give a clear definite on the word adult suffrage in the Sixth Schedule areas.

From the ANVC has made their stand clear that other than the tribal others should be allowed to participate in the electoral process like, the MDC Election, Municipal election or village council election.

From the ANVC express their dismay on the state government because the state government has not form the core committee to have a discussion at the state level between the ANVC and the state government at least twice in a year or quarterly on the Agreed text peace settlement sign.

The meeting was chair by the Joint Secretary of the Ministy Home Affair Mr S. Kar and from the state government official who were present in the Core Committee held today is the Secretary Home Department Mr EP Kharbih and from the police Department is Mr BL Buam Additional Director General of Police.
