Shillong, July 12: On the occasion of Guru Purnima, the Art of Living Shillong chapter organised a tree plantation programme at Hindu Mission School on Saturday.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sanjay Goyal, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills.
This was an initiative mooted by Art of Living to make the town greener as they pledge to work for the protection of environment.
Present on the occasion were the school committee members and the students of Hindu Mission School.
Guru Purnima is a day in Hindu calendar which is dedicated to the spiritual and academic teachers. In Hinduism, Guru or a teacher is equated with God. A true Guru is a link between the individual and the Supreme Power. That is why the Guru puja is performed in respect of the teacher on the day of Guru Purnima.
One of the most important person who has a hand in shaping a person’s lives after his parents is the teacher. The teacher or Guru is the person who leads a person from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. Hence, they play a major role in shaping ones life.(SP News)
