Shillong, July 23: The BSF in its Anti-Smuggling drive, on the International Border, acting on a tip off, troops of BOP Tuka, Lyngkhat and Pyrdwah, East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya seized 28 cattle. It is worth mentioning that the BSF has been continuously effecting seizures in the particular area of Lyngkhat.
The Border Security Force the 443 km Indo-Bangla border with Meghalaya State which is interspersed with riverine, dense forests and hilly terrains. With the recent slump in the smuggling and resultant demand-supply gap, the beaf price has skyrocketed, making trafficking riskier but much lucrative.
The Border Security Force is increasingly facing physiological attacks on its men by the persons involved in this activity. Moreover, the cow-traffickers have also developed a well-oiled counter-intelligence network. “There are ‘linemen’ whose task is to keep tabs on BSF movement.
Then there are ‘transporters’ who ensure the cattle go across the border, and there are ‘stoners’ who rain stones on BSF troops to scatter”. From here, it takes riverine route. Since a huge stretch of Indo-Bangla border is still without fence, despite of regular movements of BSF troops gaps do create.
After continuous anti -smuggling drive and putting extra vigil on the border, the BSF has been achieving a great success in countering the cattle smuggling effecting considerable seizure at zero line. All the seized cattle handed over to concern department for further legal action.
