The BSF seizes 41 cattle from Tuka, Iewthymmai East Khasi Hills District

Shillong, March 30: The attempts of cattle smuggling by smugglers from India to Bangladesh again foiled by the troops of Border Security Force. It appears, the smugglers on both the sides on Indo-Bangladesh border are continuously in touch and keep tracking the movement of BSF patrols.

The BSF troops deployed at Tuka, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, acting on tipoff, launched Special operation and laid a trap while some notorious smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh taking advantage of rainy weather. The BSF troops challenged smugglers but the smugglers managed to abscond from the spot. Troops cordoned  suspected  area and seized 41 Nos cattle while being smuggled to Bangladesh.

Similarly, in seven more incidents, the BSF troops deployed at Nayabazar, Umsiyang and Tuka in East Khasi Hills, Kalaichar and Balughat in South West Garo Hills and Gangangar and Fokachindi in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 72  Nos more cattle while being smuggled out  to Bangladesh.

It is mentioned that every night, when troops go out to patrol the borders in groups of three-four, face cattle smugglers armed with sharp-edged weapons like “dah” and “bhala”, and country-made firearms, pushing cattle to Bangladesh. Some times heavily outnumbered, the troops face attacks, stone pelting etc. from these criminals. These criminals have been attempting to breach the fence to succeed in their deeds which has caused more attention of the troops. Surprisingly by the smugglers are managing to get back the seized cattle after auction.
