Shillong, November 09: Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development ( IBSD) a National Institute under Department of Biotechnology , Govt. of India based at Manipur, North East India today signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Belgium based Vision on Technology (Vito) in the field of Climate Change, Environment, Water Management, Biotechnology, Bamboo Refinery ,bioresources management etc. at a glittering ceremony held at Hotel Taj ,New Delhi on the occasion of the state visit of their majesties King and Queen of Belgium to India.
The MOU was signed by Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director of IBSD and Dr. Dirk Fransaer, Managing Director of Vito. The MOU was signed in presence of HE Didier Reynders, Federal Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, HE Pieter De Crem, Federal Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, HE Rudi Vervoort ,Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region as well as Ambassador of Belgium to India.
In total only 16 MOUs were signed which include ADANI Group, CII, Pharmaceutical Industry, Bharat Electronics, Govt. of Meghalaya, IIT Kanpur, IBSD etc. We are very fortunate and lucky to be chosen as the only Research based institute from North East and the entire country to be part of this historic event.
“I am sure this MOU is very important for both the countries especially for the socio economic development of North East said Professor Sahoo. With Indian resources and Belgium technologies we will be able to bring a lot of development at the grass root level and bring changes in the life of people”.
Mr Sahoo who later met the visiting Belgian King His Excellency King Philippe is very happy to inform that things are rapidly changing in North East and soon many more developmental project will be brought to NE.
The MOU is very important which is taking place in the year when both nations are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic ties, is aimed at deepening the overall political and economic engagement between the two countries. The Royal couple is accompanied by six Ministers and a high powered business delegation comprising of CEOs of about 90 Belgian companies, 13 Heads of academic institutions and a 30-member media delegation.
The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told media person in Shillong that from Meghalaya He has sign the MoU with Belgium, this Mou will help in the filed of live stock and to get the agricultural produce from Meghalaya an access to the European market. Until un unless the agricultural produce are sent outside the country the farmers will not get good value,
