Shillong, July 11: The Department of Legal Metrology its primary duty is to safeguard the consumers from the traders by way of maintaining the accuracy of weighing of the instrument used by the traders.
The department is keep a closed watched on the traders who tried to cheat the consumers said the Director to the SP News Agency. The department could not do alone but its needs the cooperative from the public to come forwards if they fill that they were cheated by the traders.
In all the eleven headquarters of the District the Department has set up their offices with laboratories equipped for testing the measurement of all the classified items with fall under their preview.
Thought the department tries it best to tackle the malpractices by the traders, but the department luck manpower. At present the state have eleven District but they have only nine inspectors which made them difficult in performing their duties.
The Department has so far have taken action to 150 traders for the current financial till date. The Director urged the consumers to come forwards withier complaint if they fill that they were cheated by the traders in measuring their items that they have purchased.(SP News)
