Shillong, June 04: In view of the week long Silver jubilee celebration of the District that will kick start tomorrow at Pahamsyiem stadium in Nongpoh the District administration of Ri Bhoi District has lifted the imposition of 144 CrPC from the District from today.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District said that the restrictions imposed on the assembly of persons as was imposed vide the order under S. 144 CrPC by the District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi has been revoked, by the orders of DC, RiBhoi.
This decision was taken in view of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Ri Bhoi District, which is scheduled to begin from 5th of June and shall continue till 9th of June, 2017. It was considered that people may not be able to participate and enjoy the celebrations wholeheartedly, if the restrictions on assembly are continued.
Various NGOs, eminent citizens and public leaders have appealed to people of Ri Bhoi District to maintain peace and tranquility. They had also requested the District Administration to consider revocation of S. 144 CrPC restrictions on assembly.
However, the restrictions imposed on carrying of Firearms, sharp weapons, lathis and any other weapon which may used for intimidation. Adequate security measures are taken to tackle any law and order problem and emergencies in view of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations.
