The Election department launched ERO-Net at Tura, Ampati, Jowai and Khliehriat

Shillong, August 25: As part of the State wide launch of ERO-Net, a web-based app to facilitate voters was launched today at DRDA Conference Hall, West Garo Hills District, Tura by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, West Garo Hills Pravin Bakshi.

Speaking on the occasion, Pravin Bakshi informed that under this system people can register for voter ID card online and can check the status of the application till the completion of registration process. The system is expected to check inaccuracy and duplicity of voters. The major benefit of this system is that the voter can upload personal details at his or her level which will reduce chances of mistakes in voter card details, he added. Moreover, he said that the system aims to facilitate enrolment of voters to garner more participation in the electoral process of our country.

Senior Assistant System Engineer, DC Election, Tura, David Kharpuri highlighted the components and functioning of ERO-Net. He informed that ERO Net is the e-Services launched by Election Commission of India (ECI) in which the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), is authorized by the ECI to enroll voters while net is a system to integrate and automate the process if ECI and further enables National Roll out of the e-Services to stakeholders.

During the function, the Official Handbook for Campus Ambassadors was also launched along with the officials of election department and District Election Officer and others with a view to enable the campus ambassadors to carry out the task of enrolment besides educating Young and Future Voters on critical aspects pertaining to the conduct of Elections and substantially contribute to advancing the democratic process in our state.

It may be mentioned that Campus Ambassadors were appointed since 2014 and at present there are about 30 campus Ambassadors in West Garo Hills District. Since the appointment of Campus Ambassadors and their activities, the registration of voters in all colleges and universities had become cent percent in West Garo Hills district.

The function was also attended by G Areng, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, D N Sangma, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board, A V D Shira, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, S B Marak, Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board, Tura, R Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Dadenggre, Block Development Officers of West Garo Hills District, Booth Level Officers, Representatives of political parties and Campus Ambassadors of various Colleges and Universities in the district.

In West Jiantia Hills the  Deputy Commissioner, Mr R. Rapthap today launched the web based application ERO net in the District to facilitate the voters.The programme was held in the conference room, DC’s Office, Jowai and was attended by Amlarem Sub Divisional Officer, I. Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S. C. Laloo, Extra Assistant Commissioners, B. J. Kharshandi, V. A. Hynniewta, H. M. L. Kynta, Supervising officers and representatives of Regional Political Parties.

Deputy Commissioner, R. Rapthap said the new system adopted will help ease rushes during enrolment at the same time it will help to check inaccuracy and duplicity of votes. Through this App, voters can also apply all through the year and upload personal details.

Briefing on the benefit of the new system, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S. C. Laloo informed any elector attaining the age of 18 can get register for Voter Identity Card online from any Community Service Centre, Cyber Café or even from personal computers, after online registration the voter will get a unique ID with which they can check the status of the application till the completion of the registration process.

For registration, citizens will have to login to www.NVSP.in a National Voters Service portal informed B. J. Kharshandi. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will get the details and get it verified through Booth Level Officer (BLO) and the same will be handed to the Supervising officers to hand over to the ERO’s to process the registration.

Together with the rest of the State the ERO-Net under ECI-Net system was launched at Ampat in the presence of the Election officials and other district officials, representatives of political parties, BLOs and senior citizens of South West Garo Hills on Friday.

The programme for launching of ERO-Net was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) Smt. H.D.B Sangma, who in her address informed the gathering that ERO-Net would facilitate online application for electoral registrations, adding that the system would ensure healthy, error-free electoral roll through seamless processing of forms, easy handling of data bases, regular and simpler way of monitoring the electoral registration activities. She also informed that with the launch of ERO-Net, the deficiencies in the ERS maintenance and problem of dual voters would now be taken care of.

The system has three components, namely ERO-Net which would link all EROs across the country, Unified National Photo Electoral Rolls Data (UNPER) and Citizen Electoral Services on NVSP.EAC (Election) Ampati, M.R. Marak explained in detail about the use of different forms in electoral registration like form 6, 6A, 7, 7A, 8 and 8A and their online application for new registration, deletion, correction and transfer of names as the case may be.

Later,Asstt. Systems Engineer, Ampati, S. Banai gave a power-point presentation on the online processing of forms through ERO Net and roles of BLOs, supervisors and Data Entry Operators in online form processing, which was followed by discussion and interaction among the participants.

The office of the District Election Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, today launched the ERO Net in the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference hall today at Khliehriat.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. S. S. Syiemlieh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, I/c Election said that ERO Net is a platform for preparation of maintenance of Electoral Rolls. He also said that the main purpose of the ERO Net is to create clean and error free electoral rolls in the District, adding that with the launching of the ERO Net, it is easier for the people to enrol themselves online.

The meeting was attended by the Block Level Officers, Rangbah Shnongs and representatives of political parties.
