The GHSMC will hold public rally at Ramchenga to demand for Garoland

Shillong, November  24: The Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) which has been in the forefront of a democratic struggle for a new state of Garoland will once again will hold public rally in the village of Ramchenga close to the Indo-Bangla border in South Garo Hills.

The public rally, which will be held on 3th December next month and it was  expected to draw a huge rural turnout in support of the demand. This was announced by  co-chairman of the GHSMC, Balkarin Marak said, “We are set to reunite Garos and others communities to participate in the demand for a Garoland state, through democratic and non violent means.”

The GHSMC has been fighting through the democratic route for a separate state along with likeminded parties and NGOs like the Garo National Council (GNC) which is a local political party based on the same demand.

It is a long pending demand and we will continue the fight till the dream is achieved. Since 1890 Garos have been demanding a separate state but in vain. We will continue the fight for overall development of the community and Garo Hills.

“We all know that our tribe is one of the largest in North East India and as such should be progressed but due to lack of political power we are far behind than the other communities,” he alleged. The GHSMC further sought the support of all residents of the Garo Hills in strengthening their movement for the demand for a separate state.
