The GNLA denied any links with the two people killed in a joint operation

Tura, Aug 10: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has denied any links with the two people killed in a joint Army-Assam Police operation, in the border village of Kongkal, near Kukurkata police
outpost along Assam-Meghalaya border.

On August 7, 19th Dogra regiment had led a joint operation with Assam police, wherein two GNLA cadres were killed. In a release issued today, the outfit condemn the killing. “They had no links hatsoever with the killing of daily wage labourers and the whole operation was a cooked up story by the army and Assam police”, said Savio Marak, senior cadre of the outfit.

He also informed that the two persons killed were not GNLA cadres. “We are indeed saddened by the death of two innocent youths. We condemn this act of killings by the Army and Assam police”, he added.

The outfit has termed the encounter as fake. “It is a routine drama staged by the army and Assam police before the occasion of Independence Day or Republic Day. It has been a feature of Indian Army to stage fake encounters of innocent civilians projected as terrorists, militants or insurgents”, the release said.

Condemning the act of the security forces, the outfit demand condemnation from NGOs and Meghalaya Human Rights Commission. The outfit also asked Meghalaya government to take up the matter with its
Assam counterpart.
