The Health Department Govt of Meghalaya terminated 16 AYUSH doctors in Garo Hills

Tura, January 09: The Health Department Government of Meghalaya has terminated 16 AYUSH doctors in Garo Hills, after they were alleged that they have produced fake degree certificate, they were appointed on contract bases.

This doctors Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) doctors are appointed under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) program. Most of the employees are appointed under a contract basis and paid about Rs 22000 as remuneration.

Out of  19 doctors  16 have been terminated, the AYUSH doctors appointments were all cancelled effective December 31 with the order being given by the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of WGH.

The  complaint was filed by one Peter A Sangma of Phulbari in West Garo Hills on the AYUSH doctors not meeting the minimum criteria for employment last month in December to the DC of WGH, Pravin Bakshi after which an inquiry was done and the 16 doctors terminated.

The social activist in his complaint to the DC had pointed to standards required for the appointment of the AYUSH doctors to various Community Health Centres (CHC) and Primary Health Centres (PHC), did not even meet the required criteria.

“The advertisement had clearly stated that the minimum criterion for appointment is a Bachelors degree though almost all appointed only have a Diploma. This itself goes against the process,” said Peter.

The terminated doctors have been identified as Nabajyoti Barman, Md ZJ Iqbal, Monirul Hussain, Poinur Ali, Parag Talukdar, Saber A Sarkar, Nur Alom Mondal, Sanjay Kr Paul, Aminur Rehman, Mainul Haque, Safiullah Musnhi, Elias Ahmed, Sariful Islam, Tanjit Mehbub, Anowar Hussain and Akbar Hussain Mondal. The doctors belonged to various CHCs and PHCs of Selsella, Tikrikilla, Asanang, Dalu and Darengre in WGH.
