Mawphlang, June 29: The question arises who own the Khasi Heritage Village at Mawphlang, is the Khasi Hills Autonomous District or whom?.
The KHADC has collected as entry fees from the Tourist who visited the village of Rs. 10 per head and for any person who inter with the camera extra charge was made. At the average tourist who visited the village are not less than hundred people.
But many tourists who visited that village lamed that the pathetic condition of the traditional building which left unattended, if the owner of the village maintain thus building will attract tourist.
The sorry state of affair is that the present executive committee in the KHADC instead of completing the project which left incomplete by the previous Executive committee they hove use the heritage village for their political game.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council with the help from the central government has constructed the Khasi Heritage Village, Mawphlang, about 25 kilometres from Shillong.
The objective of having this Heritage Village, is an initiative to protect, preserve and conserve the traditional heritage and social customs of the ethnic tribes of the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
The Heritage Village is spread over a 8 acre area in Mawphlang village. So far the KHADC has been able to construct only ten traditional houses from among the fifty four Himas which fall under the jurisdiction of the KHADC.
The previous Executive Committee in the KHADC has taken the decision that they will organized annual festival in the heritage village to showcase to the world the various traditions that the khasi people have within the fifty four Himas.
The KHADC has appointed four person as watch men to look into thus houses constructed in the heritage village, but the KHADC let the village with out any maintenance which has become an eye sour to the tourist who visited the site. (SP News)
