Shillong, February 17: The Khasi Student Union of Ranikor Circle alleged that the changes of colour in the Jaduguda River or the Ranikor River since the month of December 2016 is due to the Exploratory of Uranium ore at Phodkud area od South West KHasi Hills District.
Speaking to Media person at the Shillong press club today the president of the KSU Ranikor Circle Mr Marcony Thongni demand from the state Government that the government should asked the Atomic Minerals Department to cover up all the pith hold drill by the Maheswari Company Private Limited who do the exploratory work in the area.
The KSU president said that from the Deputy Commissioner of the South West KHasi Hills District has asked the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board to investigate the cause why this river changes it colour that flow from River Wahblei and why not the River Rilang. The death of the fish’s in this river surface in the year 2010.
Bu this year the colour of this River Wahblei change it colour, the KSU urged the government to look seriously on this issued and the government should asked the AMD to cover up all the pith drill by the Maheshwari Company Ltd, the cause of this change in the colour in the river allege the KSU.
The KSU will not belief that due to coal mining in the area that will led to the change of the colour in the river, since there is no coal mining activities after the National Green Tribunal has stop mining of Coal, what the people do now is just transporting the old stock as permission granted by the NGT.
