Shillong, March 05: North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) celebrated its 14th Annual Day on 5thMarch, 2024 at NEIGRIHMS auditorium. The event commenced with a welcome song performed by the students.
Organizing Chairman Prof (Dr.) A.S. Santa Singh (Dean, NEIGRIHMS) delivered the welcome address. He also congratulated the graduate students and asked to incorporate empathy in their future medical profession. Prof (Dr.) A.S. Santa Singh also administered the Physician’s Pledge to the medical students.
Director, NEIGRIHMS Prof. Nalin Mehta in his address emphasized the importance of discipline, dedication, compassion, communication and ethics of good work in the medical profession.
Prof. Mehta also advised the future mentors, healers and medical practitioners not to ignore their own health during the service to mankind. He congratulated the parents and families for their support and sacrifice made to make their children future medical professionals.
The function was graced by Chief Guest and eminent gastroenterologist Prof (Dr.) Rakesh Aggarwal (Director, JIPMER, Puducherry). Prof. Aggarwal was conferred the prestigious India Gandhi Oration and he delivered a talk on “My Tryst with Hepatitis”. Prof. Aggarwal took the audience through his wonderful research journey on Hepatitis virus.
Prof. Aggarwal congratulated students in completing the course successfully and with pride. Prof. Aggarwal advised all graduates to always remember the sacrifices made by their parents and also to take care of the family in future with dignity.
He also advised them to follow the heart to succeed and behave as the society expects from medical professionals. Lastly, he urged them to use their education to change the world in serving the humanity.
Prof. Aggarwal along with other dignitaries conferred scrolls to newly graduated Medical and Nursing students. The chief guest also awarded various prizes for the academic and scientific events which were held as a part of annual day celebration.
Organizing Secretary Prof. Tanie Natung (HoD Ophthalmology) proposed the vote of thanks. He appreciated the team work by faculty, staff, administration and students of NEIGRIHMS in making the event successful. The program was followed by Cultural evening which showcased various talents by faculty, staff and students of NEIGRIHMS.
