Shillong, July 12: The North Garo Hills District is all set to celebrate its 5th anniversary on 27th of this month in a befitting manner. A meeting is this regard was convened by the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills District on Monday at his Office Chamber with all the stake holders to chalk out the programme.
The meeting has decided to organize various events to commemorate the day. During the celebration, a booklet profiling the achievements of various line departments accomplished in the preceding year particularly in the last five years will also be released.
It may be mentioned, it was on 27th July 2012, the district of North Garo Hills was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma at a function at Mini Stadium, Resubelpara by carving out areas from the existing East Garo Hills District; thus fulfilling a long desired and cherished dream of the people of the area.
The North Garo Hills District comprising an area of 2,603 square kms with populations of about 3,17,618 as per 2011 census shares its boundaries with Goalpara and part of Kamrup districts of Assam in the North, West Khasi Hills in the East, West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills towards the West and South respectively. The District has four Legislative Assembly segments-Bajengdoba, Resubelpara, Mendipathar and Kharkutta under its jurisdiction.
