Shillong, October 04: The government is very much concern with the traffic congestion in the Shillong city and on the GS Road in Mawlai area where commuter get stuck on Mawlai area for hours.
The PWD department is trying to find out ways to ease this traffic congestion, the PWD minister Mr Martin M Danggo made his inspection to the Mawlai-NEHU bye pass road to upgrade this single lane road to double lane road so that people coming to shillong city they can take this road.
The PWD minister after inspecting this road he found that, if the government can get land to convert this single lane road to a double lane road it will ease the traffic congestion in Mawlai area and along the GS in the main city Shillong.
After inspecting this road that goes from Mawlai-Umjapung from Mawiong and connect with the VIP Road to North Eastern Hills University, the PWD minister see that people who are coming for official work will come through this By-pass to avoid entering Mawlai area and this will help to reduce traffic congestion along the GS Road while entering the city.
Others road that the PWD want to convert into double lane road are the VIP Road from Mawlai connecting Ri Bhoi District near Umroi air port, and the road from Nongmynsong connecting Shillong by- Pass.
The government is also looking for an alternate road to connect the Shillong Peak and Laitkor area since the Air Force authority has stop the commuters to travel in the Shilong view point road. The PWD department is very much on it job how to ease traffic congestion in the shillong city which every travelers complaint.
