The recent High Court decision to dispose the PIL filed by CSWO is an embarrassment to Dr Mukul Govt

Shillong, August  24: The National People’s Party (NPP) president has termed the recent High Court decision to dispose the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) with regards to the Dual Post issue as an embarrassment for the state government and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

The NPP leader while applauding the KHADC CEM P N Syiem for his victory after the Meghalaya High Court delivered its verdict on the PIL has however cautioned the state government to first do their research before coming out with any rules or regulations.

Addressing newsmen here on Wednesday, NPP president Conrad Sangma, said, “This have left the state government totally red faced including the Chief Minister and government officials in a very embarrassing position.”

Asserting that he is sure that in this case government officials must have asked to do detail study on the matter before introducing the anti-dual Act passed by the state government, he said “There must have been political pressure or political reason that the leadership must have said No we want this to be done immediately and this has lead to a very big mistake on the part of the government.”

Stating that the hurried attitude of the state government to pass the dual post bill is due to personal vendetta by the state government, Sangma said, “When the government and the Chief Minister tries to get back at people by getting personal it’s not healthy for the state.”

He added, “However justice has prevail and this is like a big slap on his (Chief Minister) face and he should avoid doing this kind of thing and focus on developmental issues and problems of the state.”
