Ampati, April 22: Heavy, incessant rains on Friday night that continued till Saturday morning led to the flooding of low lying areas in various parts of South West Garo Hills district, submerging houses, agricultural lands and causing damages to roads and fishery ponds.
Low lying areas under Zikzak C&RD block namely Silkona, Nandirchar, Beparipara, Hridaypur, Daspara, Patelipara and New Kalaichar have been worst affected by floods and few of the households in Silkona village are taking shelter in a school building.
Although there has been no report of loss of life or serious damage to properties,. the DDMA has already deployed officials and concerned gram sevaks are on the field to conduct actual ground assessment and preparation of relief camps should the need arise.
Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma has directed the District officials to provide relief assistance to the affected families.
