To eradicate crimes against young girls, CCAWDA will organized public meeting at Jaiaw Student field

Shillong, September  6: Aiming to eradicate the increasing crimes against young girls and women in the state a new committee, Committee Crimes Against Women and Drug Abuse (CCAWDA) will be holding a public meeting on September 9 at Jaiaw Student field from 1PM onwards.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, Doria Shabong convener of the committee said, “We have observed that despite countless cases of violence and crimes against women in the state there has not been even single NOG or any other group to step up and take up this issue that is why we have decided to form this committee.”She informed that at present the committee comprises of around 10 members.

“As mothers we are concern about our children in our society because we have observed that there is an increase in crimes against young girls and women in the state and we can’t just sit idle doing nothing but we want to also take an initiative to eradicate such evils from the society,” she said.

She also urge upon the general public to attend the public meeting cum awareness programme on September 9.

The committee has also invited the president of CSWO Agnes Kharshiing, Meghalaya Women’s Commission Chairperson Theilin Phanbuh, State Child Protection, Mina Kharkongor, MDCs, MLAs, leaders of various NGOs and various headman bodies.

Meanwhile, president, KHNAM State Youth Wing, Thomas Passah, however said that this committee was formed just to bring together all the concern people including the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, MLAs, MDCs, and NGOs under one platform to unitedly fight against these ever increasing illicit activities.

He said the meeting aims that the voice of the people should be heard and to unitedly fight against these illicit activities under the theme ‘One Voice Vs Crime Against Women & Drug Abuse’.
