Ampati, April 19: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), South West Garo Hills, conducted a day-long training programme for the village Disaster Management Committees (VDMCs) and Village Employment Councils (VECs) on Disaster Management Plan Updation at Zikzak on Tuesday. The training was attended by one member each from all the villages and VECs under Zikzak C&RD block.
The training was based on the guidelines under Disaster Management Act, 2005 for taking necessary measures for prevention of disasters, mitigation, preparedness and capacity building of the communities to respond promptly and effectively to any disaster or natural calamities. The participants were also given insights on providing first aid to the victims and on carrying out rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction during disasters.
Further, in order to draw up mitigation, preparedness and response plan in the district, workshop is also being organized by the DDMA for preparing departmental plan at Ampati on April 26, next. Nodal officers and representatives of all departments concerned have been asked to attend the workshop.
