Two-day review meeting on Participatory Video Training in NESFAS

Shillong, June 30: We have always been living around the fire to share stories. The camera is another innovation that has help to amplify our voices to connect to the world. Today just like our mobiles phones we have been able to even cross borders by sharing and inspiring these stories online.

NESFAS had just conducted a two-day workshop programme which was held on the 29th & 30th June 2016. The workshop was attended by the chairman of NESFAS, Mr. Phrang Roy and the participants of the ITM 2015 from around North East India of the participatory video program.

The Participatory video has help the community to be change makers from their village to inspire nationally and globally. It is not a training for citizen journalist or even to be a video activist.

It has however brought a certain aspect of innovation for people to share their stories in front of the camera. In which the stories are documented by the community and the neighbors of the village to share together to highlight the diversity among their community. They learn as a group to help to analyze and identify issues in their communities by building various games and exercises to build confidence as they plan and shoot their films.

Mr. Chentei Khiamniungan of Noklak Village from Tuensang District, Nagaland. He realized he is still learning the success stories in the community. He has noticed however a story his team had documented about Millet cultivation.  It has given a voice about his village. It has inspired five other surrounding villages to accept millet which was considered a poor man crop. Participatory video has help to share cultures and stories according to Mr. Chentei

Miss Tshenyilo-u Chirhah of Chizami Village from Phek Districk Nagaland. PV has help her as a youth to be aware about the importance of conserving and preserving traditional stories that they are unaware off. She has learnt a lot about the innovations being used in their traditional agricultural practices in Chizami, Nagaland.

Mr. Phrang Roy Chairman of NESFAS, he welcomed the participants who have gathered the strength as a foundation during ITM 2015 to tell the stories from their communities and has help NESFAS to gather these stories.

During the ITM 2015 he saw how in each of the plenary session started with a PV video edited by the communities. It brought local stories to global audience, to listen and to tickle the world through participatory video. It brought people together to facilitate and change the narratives that contributes to the wellbeing of their community.

In which a simple video or a even a mobile phone is able to contain the excitement in the community by creating simple dialogue for a mirror of opportunities through communication, collaboration and commitment to sustain and build change.
