Two youths from the state achieved success at the 29th NYS Championship 2016

Shillong, September  15: Two local youths from the state achieved success at the 29th National Yoga Sana Championship 2016, held on 10-12 September, at Sailen Manna Stadium, West Bengal.

In the 6-10 years old category for boys and girls Ekaparnika Das ranked 6th position and for the age category 10-15 years, Bikran Biswas managed to attain the 13th position.

Informing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Chinmoyee Gupta Roy, Coach of Meghalaya Yoga Association lauded the efforts of her students for managing to achieve such high rankings in the championship despite facing tough competition from about 80-85 participants in each age category.

Lamenting on the lack of support from the state government, she said, “Even though the government is spending a lot of money celebrating Yoga Day every year in the state, however till today we have yet to receive and support from the government.”

Roy learned her trade in the art of Yoga from the Hitman Physical Institute located at Jail Road and is currently imparting the knowledge towards her students for the past 5 years now.

She informed that around 20 states from across the country had participated in the championship.The total strength of participants from Meghalaya taking part in the championship is 10 both boys and girls.

“The students selected to participate in the championship were chosen based on their performance during the Sate contest in Meghalaya,” she said. She observed that the people of the state are more aware of the benefits of taking up yoga as there has been an increase in the number of people learning yoga in the state.

“When I first started teaching yoga 5 years back, I had only 3 students however at present I have more than 40 students learning yoga,” she said.
