Shillong, August 0 3: Concern over the MUDA style of functioning which has not been satisfactory and full of errors a round up meeting with all legislators who fall under the agglomeration area was held here on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters urban affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh said in view of the constant conflicts that were arising in the implementation of the building bye laws within the conglomeration of Shillong city including matters pertaining to the PHE and MeECL permission and subsequent power connections for residence, the meeting was held.
She informed that the meeting has resolve to fast track the formation of an alternative agency to MUDA including issues like extension of rooms in homes outside the Municipal areas and how to sort out to fast track the permissions, occupancy certificates and power connections.
Informing that the officers are going to sit and supervise the meetings and try to find fast track solution to see how to quickly provide solutions to these problems,” she said “We will be sitting with the legal team keeping in mind the recent court order in the recent past which makes it binding to the MUDA to operate under such time that the agency comes into existence.”
We are looking at the possibility of an immediate fast tracking of the requirement of the amendment of the building Bye law again and also at the requirement of the setting up of alternative agencies.She however said that these procedures will take some time but we will try to sort out these matters.
She also admitted that the definition of the building bye laws itself has so many loop holes since it was instituted in 2001 and these kind of agendas continues to occur with the passing time and the need of the hour is to live up to the expectation of the residences and the MUDA is here to assit and not to create complications.
The meeting was attended by legislator like Ardent Basaiawmoit, Jemino Mawthoh, Paul Lyngdoh, Embah Syiemlieh beside others.
