Campaign against Early Child Marriage and Sexual Abused on Children

Shillong, March 20:To stop early child marriage and sexual abused on children, women and other forms of violence against women and discrimination against girls and harmful traditional practices to children .World Vision India, East Khasi Hills A.P has organised a Campaign against Early Child Marriage and Sexual Abused on Children and women on Monday at Madan Smit.

Speaking in the campaign, Chairperson State commission for protection on child right Mrs. Meena Kharkongor enlightened the gathering about four basic child rights – that is right to survival, right to development, right to protection and right to participation. Kharkongor also stress on the importance of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE) which is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted on 4 August 2009, and describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution. At the same time Kharkongor stress about the importance of the role of parents citing that the greatest service of the parents is to provide education and take proper care of their children.

Present in the campaign were Mission Director State resource centre for women Mrs. I Warjri, Senior Medical health officer Dr. Andreena Lyngdoh, students and residents of Smit.
