Shillong, January 31: To ensure free and fair conduct of the upcoming Legislative Assembly Election 2018 in East Jaintia Hills District, the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) is constituted with the District Election Officer as Chairman. The members of the Committee include Additional Deputy Commissioners, Extra Assistant Commissioners, representative of the Central Government I & B Ministry Official in the District, Independent Citizen/Journalist as may be recommended by District Election Officer and District Information and Public Relations Officer, Khliehriat as Member Secretary.
The term of reference of the Committee is to preview, scrutinize and verify all advertisements by individual contesting candidates or political parties before inserted in the electronic media, certification of advertisements, examine complaints/issues of paid news etc. scan all media for suspected cases of paid news, monitoring of political advertisements in electronic media, monitoring of political advertisement in other media in relation to candidates either overt or covert from expenditure monitoring angle, advertisement in print media, checking if the name and address of the publisher and the printer is carried on any election pamphlets, poster, hand bill and other document as required under Section 127 A of the RPA Act 1951.
