Mr Julius MLA has to apply permission from court to cast his vote in the presidential election

Shillong, July 12: The presidential election is due on Monday next; the Electoral College will cast their vote to elect the new president of India. In Meghalaya the election will take place at the Temporary Assembly at Rilbong.

The Mawhati legislator Mr Julius Dorphang who is in judicial custody if he wants to exercise his franchise to vote in this upcoming presidential election he has to apply for permission from court, if the court allowed him to cast his vote.

Speaking to SP News Agency, Commission secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Mr Andrew Saimon, said that if he wants to vote in this coming presidential election he has to apply permission from Judiciary. If the court allowed he has to be escort by the police and after voting he has toba taken back by the police.

From the Assembly they cannot do anything, but if he apply for permission and if the court gave permission the Assembly cannot denied his right to vote, as an elected MLA he has to right to vote.
