MSLSA sensitising on ‘Legal Services To Workers of the Unorganised Sector”

Shillong, Nov 11: The Meghalaya Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) today conducted a sensitising programme on ‘Legal Services To Workers of the
Unorganised Sector” at the Meghalaya a Training Institute, Shillong.

The programme conducted under the NALSA Scheme adopted in the year 2010, aimed at reaching out to workers in the unorganised by making available the benefits of various Government schemes and to provide the protection of law.

Speaking on the occasion, Sir N.A. Khan, District and Sessions Judge and Member Secretary of MSLSA informed that there are a number of benefits under labour laws which contractors and labourers should be aware of, such as securing the education for children, insurance etc.

Stating that a large section of the work force fall under the unorganised sector, there is a need to reach out to this sector as the economy depends on them, he added. Stressing on the role of contractors in ensuring that the welfare of those working in the unorganised sector is taken care of, Shri Khan encouraged all the participants to express the challenges faced by them so that the issues can be taken up with the Government and practical solutions can be evolved.

The resource persons, Shri. P T Blah Deputy Labour Commissioner, East Khasi Hills spoke on Meghalaya Building and other Construction Worker’s Welfare Board Rules and Benefits while Shri D Rymbai, Labour Inspector, Headquarter highlighted about the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Schemes for the unorganised workers and National Pension Scheme for Small Traders.The programme was attended by contractors and labourers.
