Shillong, February 28: To celebrate the National Science Day, a National Science Day Celebration cum Regional Innovators Conclave was organised by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya in collaboration with NEC, NIF-India and MBDA. The inauguration function was was held at the Soso Tham Auditorium in the presence of the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Prof R. C. Laloo as Chief Guest, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh who is the Minister of Information and Public Relation (IPR) as the Guest of Honour, Shri. C. K. Das, the Honourable member to the CEC, B.P. Dutta , Ex – Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Shri. R. M. Mishra Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya & CEO, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA), Shri. P. Raju, the Director of NESAC, Shri Amithai, Advisor of Science and Technology, NEC, and Shri. Nitin Maurya, Innovation Officer, NIF. The function is part of a three day programme to celebrate National Science Day. Participants included students from various schools and innovators from the Northeast region including Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya.
While giving his speech, Prof. R.C. Laloo stated that students are key to creating a culture of innovation and he encouraged them to be innovative. Smt. Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the Regional Innovators Conclave will play a big role in inspiring the students of the state to take up science. She added that the 28th of February is celebrated every year as the National Science Day to widely spread the message about the importance of science in our daily lives.
As part of the celebration, a Science March was held from the venue to Raj Bhavan. There were also stalls in which grassroot innovators and students showcased their innovations to the public. In the next two days, various activities including extempore speech, science quiz, lectures, eco-games and drawing competitions will be held.
