Police registered a Suo-Moto case against the Solidarity Committee for calling NCM in Garo Hills

Shillong, March 27: Resubelpara Police lodged an FIR that on 11.03. 2017, a public meeting was organized at Dekachang in North Garo Hills under the banner of Solidarity Committee, under the leadership of Mr  Jagir M Sangma, Chairman, Solidarity Committee, Mr  Adbirt D Shira and Mr  Balnang Sangma, the meeting was started from  11 am to 2 pm in the afternoon, in protest against the incident of Police firing that happen on the 06.03.2017 at Resu Khaldang Road .

The other NGO leaders who attended the meeting were Mr  Tengsak G. Momin, President, GSU CEC, Mr Takin Areng, GSU Resubelpara, Mr  Dalcheng Bira Ch Momin, ADE, Mr  Rocky Sangma, President, GSU Williamnagar and others.In the meeting, the above named persons and others have spoken against the decision of the Government  to set up Judicial Enquiry and other steps being taken by the State Government  misleading the general public.

The speakers rejected the steps taken the Government  and have threatened to launch agitation by calling two night road blockade from 7 pm to 5 am, which was to be followed by 3-day Non-Cooperation Movement (NMC) from 16th to 18th March 2017 if Government  do not fulfill their demand. In their speeches, the two leaders namely, Mr  Adbirt D Shira and Mr  Balnang Sangma incited the public to go against the Goverment and to go agitation which amounts to abetment of common people to agitate against the State Goverment.

It appears that there is conspiracy to deliberately misinform the general people and create law and order problem in Garo Hills region by developing negative opinion against the Government by imposing of night road blockade and NCM will infringe upon the rights and liberty of the common people of Garo Hills which will amount to violation of Article 19 & 21 of Indian Constitution and will also be violation of the order of the High Court of Meghalaya.

Police registered a Suo-Moto case that on 23rd & 24th March 2017, from 5 am to 5 pm, the Non-Cooperation Movement (NCM) called by various NGOs under the banner of Solidarity Committee headed by Shri Nikman Ch Marak, Chairman, Garo Hills State Demand Committee GHSDC  in the entire Garo Hills District in violation of the Meghalaya High Court Judgment and invites penal provisions of MMPO (Amendment) Act 2010.

During the band most of the Govt. offices, Post Office, Offices for essential services like BSNL, Banks, shops and  hotels and Pharmacy store remained closed throughout the day. The vehicular traffic on the road was almost nil. This bandh has given inconvenience to general public which is against the instruction issued by the Court and is grossly illegal.
