Shillong, September 18: Border Security Force, Frontier HQ BSF, Shillong celebrated “BSF Wives Welfare Association Day(BWWA)” at BSF Campus, Umpling. The BWWA is a society registered with Registrar of Societies Delhi. It was established in 1992. Smt. Renu Sharma, wife of DG BSF is the president of this society.
The aims and objectives of BWWA is to secure the welfare of all serving and retired members of BSF and their families. Reaching out to the widows and helping in their rehabilitation.To provide vocational training to the families for economic empowerment.
The event started when Smt. Chitra Nayal, wife of DIG/PRO, Sh U K Nayal, welcomed Dr(Mrs) Jessy Antony, wife of DIG/PSO Dr. Sabu A Joseph, Secretary of BWWA at Shillong. Programme was witnessed by the families of all local BSF Battalions, Sectors and Ftr HQ BSF Meghalaya. The programme covered wide canvas of activities like Cooking competition, Anchoring competition, Fashion-Show, Hand made artificial jewellary competition, Hair Style Competition, Platform location games competition, Dance and fancy dress competition followed by colourful cultural programme cum prize distribution. The participation of BSF widows with their families was heartwarming.
In her address Dr(Mrs) Jessy Antony, Secretary of BWWA Shillong, Meghalaya Frontier, Chief Guest of the programme appreciated the immense spontaneous contribution of “BWWA” in upliftment of Jawan’s families in the BSF where their husband stay on the border. She also remembered the sacrifice of those sentinels of border whose widows were also witnessing the “BWWA” day.
She also appealed “BWWA” to undertake multidimensional activities to address the problems of jawans families by organizing vocational training, computer awareness, financial literacy, beautician course and health awareness programmes. The ‘Barhakhana’ for all the families of BSF Frontier Meghalaya was also organized.
