The govt stand as guarantor to MeECL to avail loan from PFC to pay electricity bills to NEPCO

Shillong, September  30: The state government has come out to bail the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) as a guarantor to avail loan of Rs.469.32 cores from the  Power Finance Corporation (PCF) Limited for payment of the outstanding dues to the  North Eastern Power Co-operation (NEPCO) Limited.

The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told the media person after the cabinet meeting, the decision was taken at the cabinet that the government will stand as guarantor to the MeECL to avail loan from the PFC Ltd to liquidate the outstanding dues to NEPCO.

The total outstanding dues that the MeECL has to pay for drawing power from the central pool is Rs. 767 cores, but this loan that the MeECL that will avail from the PFC to for liquidating the outstanding dues to NEPCO only.

The Chief Minister said that, the state government had also given clear cut direction to the MeECL to adopt scientific method with latest technology to realize the electricity bills from the consumers so that the corporation will not land up in problems and at the same time to ensure power supply to the consumers 24X7.

The Chief Minister also inform that the pending dues that the MeECl that they will realize from the consumers including government offices, factories, and from the people is to the tunes of Rs, 350 cores that has accumulated over the years.

To solved this problems a committee has been from, comprising people from the MeECL and from the finance department to see the best possible way, how to streamline in collection of the electricity bills so that the MeECL will not face this problems in future.
