The GSU sent memo to the CE of the PHE for scarcity of water in Bahgmara

Shillong, March 16: The Garo Student’s Union of the Southern Zone has sent the Memorandum to the Chief Engineer Public Health Department, government of Meghalaya on the scarcity of water supply in thr district and the gross negligence of the concerned department in Baghmara.

In the Memorandum the  GSU said that, crisis of water supply in the South Garo Hills District prevailing for more than a decade and yet the concerned department still hasn’t come up with the measures of  solving the problem, as the department always tries to sneak out with lame excuses and remained silent on this particular issues which the water supply are the most important resources for humanity.

In the context of the public opinion and experienced, the people of Baghmara instantly depends on individual efforts to manage drinking water for their own survival. As the concerned department is remaining silence that causing many difficulties to the public by not taking their duty into account.

Literally, P.H.E department is the sole responsible in providing portable water supply to each and every households in the District and the gross negligence and inefficiency of the concerned officials of the department is creating great obstacle to the general public. Such weight of negligence must be dealt with strict protocols from Higher Authority. Some of the Govt. Officials in the South Garo Hills District was taking it easy though the problems are creeping.

After various appeals and complains made by the NGOs and public, they always used to sneak out with lame excuses asserting the unavailability of scheme from the state Government. The GSU said that they have clearly experienced that the water pipelines connections from Rongdong have clearly damaged and most of them are in dilapidated conditions leading to absolute water crisis in the town. This dilapidated water pipelines need to be replaced with new ones immediately.

Concerned Department also need to aware that the water pipelines used to connect across National Highways which are vulnerable to collapse or breakdown at anytime due to overruns by heavy vehicles. The GSU mention that where maximum pipelines are in dilapidated conditions. Thus, the Government should supply sufficient and new pipelines in term of restoring new connections.

The state of trouble in drinking water brings chaos to the people. The water crisis is mounting and affecting in general such as , Educational Institutions, Govt. Offices and Quarters , Medical Segments and every households in the District .It is ashamed that even the P.H E department is exist, The GSU asked where it is a centre of source that provides water supply for the people.

However, the water pump has set up from Simsang River at Baghmara for an altenative source under Urban Area Water Supply Scheme. But this water pump is remaining non- functional. Mention the GSU in the memorandum submitted to the Chief Engineer PHE.
