Shillong, April 28: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) today has written to the Education Minister of Meghalaya Mr. Lahkmen Rymbui where the students organisation stress that there is a need to have State University in view of the implementation of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) in the central university.
The KSU in the letter pointed out that the central university entrance test (CUET) which will be conducted by the National testing agency (NTA) for admitting students to different under graduates (UG) Program in different central university across the country has created an atmosphere of bewilderment and trepidation among the student’s community.
Whereas, the date for registration has been notified by the competent authority to start commencing from the 06.April.2022, students from Meghalaya were being informed about the same only on the 22.04.2022 and directed by their respective educational institutions to register themselves in haste for the entrance exam through the National testing agency (NTA) portal.
It is also very disheartening to learnt that, although the above mentioned entrance test was announced by the University Grant Council in the late 2020, the Education department of the state government and North Eastern Hills University, the only central university in the state of Meghalaya where numerous colleges of Meghalaya are affiliated failed to strategize any plan for smooth implementation of the CUET and in sensitizing the student’s community of the same.
As is yet to ascertain up to what extend the propose entrance test may proof beneficial or detrimental to the aspiring students of Meghalaya. Therefore, The education cell of the Khasi Students’ Union (Central executive council) while expressing its feeling of dejection, through this missive would like to seek clarification from your good self on
The Central University Entrance Test (CUET) with regards to the plans and strategy the Education department would come up to ease the adversities and difficulties of the students.
The union take this opportunity to reminds your good self of the need for a state university which is also a long pending demand and aspiration of the union and the people of the state as a whole.
Further more the union is of the opinion that the state University wouldn’t only be a boon in terms of fulfilling the aspiration of the students community in the state,but it would also help the state to counter similar adversities if arise in the future.
The same letter was sent to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mr. Conrad K Sangma, Prof P.S Shukla Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hills University (NEHU), Shillong and the letter was sign by Mr. Raymond Kharjana Chairman Education Cell, Mr. Shiningstar Kharbihkhiew Vice Chairman Education Cella and Reuben Najiar Secretary Education Cell.
