With the rest of the country 48TH Vijay Diwas Celebrations 2018, observed in Shillong

Shillong, Dec 17:  The Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16th December every year all across the Nation to commemorate the glorious victory of Indian Armed Forces over the Pakistan Armed Forces in the Indo-Pak War of 1971.

The successful culmination of the operations resulted in creation of a new nation, Bangladesh. 101 Area located at Shillong, played a pivotal role in the success of the operations in East Pakistan and was the first formation of the Indian Army to enter Dhaka resulting in surrender by Pakistan Armed Forces on 16 December 1971.

The occasion was celebrated in Shillong as a tribute to the fallen soldiers.  In a solemn ceremony, Lieutenant General DS Ahuja, AVSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area laid a wreath at the War Memorial to commemorate, with reverence, the contribution of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice, in the line of duty.

The event culminated with a dinner hosted on eve of Vijay Diwas at HQ 101 Area Officers Mess where in all senior dignitaries of Shillong were invited.  The Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Tathagata Roy, was the Chief Guest.

Amongst the dignitaries, the following were also present – Hon’ble Justice Mohd Yaqoob Mir, Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Shri Yashi Tshering, IAS, Chief Secretary, Air Marshal R Nambiar, AVSM, VM**, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command and Shri R Chandranathan, IPS, DGP.
