Mairang, August 13: As part of the countrywide observance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav- India @75, the office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mairang Civil Sub-Division and the District Sports Promotion Society, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin.
They have organised a Cyclothon Rally within Mairang Town with the rally being flagged by SyiemKhynnah of HimaNongkhlaw, Shri K.MSyiemlieh at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission, Mairang in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Mairang Civil Sub-Division, Shri A. Nongbri and District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District, Shri P. B War Nongbri.
The objective of the rally is to create awareness on the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters of the State as India celebrates 75 year of Independence from British rule.
Braving inclement weather, a few youth and children of the area participated in the rally covering a distance of 3.8 Kms through the route Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission- Tirot Sing Memorial College-Mairangbah-Pyndengumiong- Madan Mot Tirot,Mairang Mission.
In his brief address before flagging off the rally, SyiemKhynnah, HimaNongkhlaw, Shri K.M Syiemlieh thanked the office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District for organizing the Cyclothonand expressed optimism that more such programmes will be organised by the Sports Department to celebrate the legacy and sacrifice of the Khasi patriot, u Tirot Sing Syiem.
