BSF Foil Cattle Smuggling at the IB

Shillong, May 05: The BSF troops deployed at Omkhawa, East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya foiled the forced attempt of smugglers and prevented 15 cattle worth Rs. 2.55 Lacs being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh.

The criminals have not only been indulged in cattle smuggling they often sneak into Indian territory for cattle lifting from the Indian villages there has been significant increase in smuggling of cattle in the bordering area. The Bangladeshi smugglers and carriers of these cattle are called cattle traders.

These miscreants or smugglers illegally enter into Indian territory and involve in smuggling of cattle after theft and purchase.  Their Indian associates hand them over the cattle which are brought in the name of local consumption from cattle haats in order to earn huge profit. BSF has enhanced extra Vigil on international border to prevent and curb illegal activities of Bangladeshi criminals.

Due to extra vigil by BSF smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh has come down more than 70 per cent, resulting in a sharp increase in the price of beef in Bangladesh. Troops are being briefed from time to time by BSF commanders to pluck all gaps in the fence and keep a watch over all suspected pers and their activities.
