IAF Advanced Landing Ground at Mechuka in Arunachal become operational

Shillong: May 30: IAF Advanced Landing Ground at Mechuka, a small town located in the West Siang District of the State of Arunachal Pradesh, was inaugurated by Air Marshal C Hari Kumar, Air Officer

Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command (EAC), Indian Air Force onMonday, May 30, 2016.  Air Vice Marshal Manavendra Singh, SeniorOfficer-in-Charge Administration, EAC along with Senior Army officers
attended the ceremony. Mechuka ALG remained abandoned for a long time till it was decided in 2013 to reconstruct it and make it fully Air Operational.

The project was executed by Chief Construction Engineer(North East Project) and Works Department at Headquarters Eastern AirCommand resulting in its completion in a record time of 30 months.Close supervision and active monitoring by Project Monitoring Group(PMG) made it possible inspite of its difficult location and natural hindrances in sustaining supply chain of material and machinery.

The strategic location of Mechuka  ALG will make it alaunching pad for the Air Force operations as well as a facilitator of the Administration in the management of border areas.  In future, the ALG will also provide air support in meeting the challenges during natural calamities like casualty evacuation and humanitarian
assistance as well as assist in routine supply of equipment and ration to the troops posted in far flung areas.
