If the Govt is eager to complete the railway project, first implement ILP in Meghalaya: KHNAM

SHILLONG, Aug 10: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has slammed the state government for not being able to bring any mechanism to check influx till date despite the fact that the North-eastern Railway Frontier had gone ahead with the project to complete the railway project in Meghalaya.

In a statement released here on Wednesday, Thomas Passah KHNAM state youth wing president said, “In the past few years there has been countless oppositions from various quarters on the railway project coming to the state because of the pretext that it will increase influx.”

In this connection he said, the Chief Minister had assured to bring a comprehensive mechanism to check influx before going ahead with the railway project in the state.

“The Chief Minister has deceived the people of the state since till today we have not seen any mechanism or law which will check influx, however the railway project is continuing at a steady pace. This shows that the government does not want to control influx but they want to facilitate it,” he said.

He observed that the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers has been silent on various issues concerning the demands of the school teachers, students, contractors etc…

“The demand to bring in a comprehensive mechanism to check influx has passed three years now but till date the state government has not done anything to address this issue,” he said.

According to him, there is no other mechanism to check influx in the state better than the Inner Line permit (ILP).

“If the state government is eager to complete the railway project in the state then we demand that the government should first implement ILP in Meghalaya to check the issue of influx,” he said.
