Shillong, December 11: Meghalaya is rich in flora and fauna, along with medicinal herbs particularly the West Khasi Hills District which fall under the jurisdiction of the KHADC, with an aims to promote traditional medicines, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (protection and promotion of khasi traditional medicine) Act, 2011 was passed.
When SP News Agency , contacted with thus people who were practicing traditional treatment with the used of herbs, many of them lamented that most the medicinal herbs from West Khasi Hills were smuggle outside the state without proper regulation.
This traditional practitioner said that every local market day, from Nongstoin, Rambrai market people from outside the state used to come and buy from the local people and take them outside the state, they have mention that Ginseng which is famous in west Khasi Hills District now it has become very rare to get it.
This traditional practitioners who hail from West Khasi Hills District urged upon the KHADC to fine ways and means how to protect this illegal selling of medicinal herbs from west Khasi Hills region outside the state.
