KHNAM reiterate its stand to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016

Shillong, Dec 13: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) ones again reiterate its stand to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 which intends to make illegal immigrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan as citizens of India.

In the press statement youth president Mr Thomas Passah said that “will not tolerate any attempt of the central government or the BJP to jeopardise our existence to fulfill the dreams and ambition of “One Country One Religion”.

Meghalaya share a very long border with Bangladesh, such amendments will immediately affect the demography of the State besides endangering the existence of the indigenous tribes. Their stand and demands is to detect and depot all illegal immigrants from the State rather than giving them a green card.

“We have been victim of influx for past many decades and we will deal with it head-on henceforth. The BJP in the election manifesto of 2014 might have promise to welcome and give shelter to all the Hindu refugees but we will not allowed the BJP to fulfill them at the cause of our existence” said Thomas Passah Youth President.

The State Government led by the NPP needs to take a clear stand on the issue. “Our existence and the existence of the generation to come is at stake, therefore, we call for the unity of all the political party and NGOs and citizens of the state in protest against the Bill”. Said Mr Passah.
