Shillong, July 27: BSF troops deployed in South Garo Hills distts of Meghalaya seized 437.73 CFT of Sal wood worth Rs. 13,15,275/- on international border while it was being smuggled from area of BOPBaghmara, Ex-132 BnBSF to Bangladesh. The rivers flowing towards Bangladesh are used for smuggling of forest wood.
It is said that the timber wood, in the form of logs, are dropped in the rivers with identification mark, and same is collected in Bangladesh. The seized items have been handed over to forest department for further disposal.
In last few months, BSF troops of Meghalaya Ftrhaveseized2189.71 CFT timber wood worth Rs31,54,838/-. On international border of Meghalaya state, theestimated cost of same wood in international market is more than 1 corore.(SP News)
