Major Manlun laid to rest with full military honour at the ARC Regimental Cemetery

Shillong, June 08: A day of gloom had set over Shillong who had lost their favourite son  Major David Manlun, 164 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (PU-2 Naga Regt) who got martyred while battling the dreaded ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) insurgents at Mon District (Nagaland).  The funeral of Major David was carried out by  Assam Regimental Centre at Regimental Cemetery today.

The martyred officer was laid to rest with full military honour.  The hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya Sri Banwari Lal Purohit laid the wreath at the residence of      Major David at Happy Valley, Shillong. The final journey from his house till the burial ground was witnessed by thousands of civilians who thronged the streets to bid final adieu to their favourite son. The National Flag which was draped over the martyred officer was handed over by Brigadier Sudhir Kumar Jha, YSM, Commandant ARC to Subedar Major (Retired) Khan Zhalan (Ex 5 ASSAM), father of the martyred officer.

The funeral was attended by various dignitaries that included Major General SK Dutta, Officiating General Officer Commanding 101 Area Brigadier Amrit Lal, Station Commander and Brigadier RS Thakur, Commandant58 Gorkha Training Centre.
