NEC funds were remain in the states in the form of unspent balances: Rajnath

Shillong, July 09: The Union Home Minister Mr Janath Singh in his address to the 67th Plenary session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong today stress on the need that the NEC will have to ensured maximum utilization of the existing funds for completion of the ongoing schemes in order to enable to approached the ministry of fiancé for additional funds during 2018-19.

The Union Home Minister pointed out that with the third party evaluation of the NEC carried out by IIM Shillong indicated that large amount of NEC funds were remain in the states in the form of unspent balances. These has been affected the smooth implementation of the NEC project. He urged the forum to deliberate on ways and means to expedite long pending project of the NEC so that additional funds can be sought from the ministry fiancé.

Union minister also stress on the need of participation of civil society and people at large is crucial in the developmental efforts. They should be the partners of social and economic change. On such partnership is through social audit. Social audit not only provides information on haw funds spent but most crucial it enable people’s participations in the planning of development activities and also enable courses correction as project and schemes roll on.

The Union Government is taking keen interest in developing the region for it to self sustain but to act as a link to South East Asian Countries. The Act East Policy has place emphasize on India-ASEAN cooperation in the domestic agenda in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, Trade, skill, Urban Renewal, Smart Cities and Made in India. This forum can deliberate on the road map towards realizing the objective of the government of Act East Policy.

In order to provide a platform to identified various constrains on the way of accelerated, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the North Eastern Region in the Country and to recommend suitable interventions for addressing identified constrains, the union government has set up NITI Forum for the North East, the union home minister requested the   forum to meet on a regular bases.

The Union Minister pointed out that the region suffers from lack of adequate funding, keeping in mind the low Industrial base of the region, the Union Cabinet approved the  North East Industrial Development Schemes (NEIDS)   2017 with the financial outlay of Rs.3000 cores up to march 2020. The Union Minister urged the entrepreneur to take this opportunity to set up industrial units and generate the much need employment.

The Union Minister in his address in the 67th meeting of the NEC has touched all sectors like agricultures and others issued related to the economic growth of the region. The Union Minister said that the NEC is committed to help realize this vision of equal development. The two day session in sunder way in Shillong and will conclude tomorrow.
