NEHU organizes run for Unity to commemorate the Unity Day on the birthday of Sardar Patel

Shillong, oct 31: The North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong today organized a Run for Unity to commemorate the National Unity Day, which is also the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The run started from Gate 5 of the University Campus and ended in the compounds of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Shri L. Nongkhlaw, the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawkynroh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was organized by the Office of the Dean’s Students Welfare in association with the Sports Department and NSS Cell, NEHU.

In his speech the Chief Guest elaborated on the purpose of observing the National Unity Day and how it should be celebrated every year to instill the feeling of Unity among the young population of the country.

He exhorted on the point that NEHU being an educational hub should work towards building a congenial relationship with the society and help in building a thriving society wherein peace and harmony play important roles.

He also thanked the NEHU authorities on sending him the invitation and expressed that NEHU  and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Mawkynroh should work together in building a peaceful society.

The Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla stated that it is indeed a proud moment for the University to host the Rangbah Shnong and the community members of Mawlai Mawkynroh.

He also encouraged the students of the University to work towards building a peaceful environment. The Vice-Chancellor also exhorted on the point that internal peace is as important as external peace. He congratulated all the winnersand those who participated in the run.
