Shillong, June 04: The North-East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society will organise the monthly Mei-Ramew Farmers’ Market on June 8, 2019 at their office premises in Laitumkhrah.

It is also a platform for consumers to access organically produced food items and different varieties of wild edibles. They will also getthe opportunity to communicate with the producers directly.

This event brings together communities, highlights the value of local foods and reinforces the need for community based action. A greater awareness has been generated in the communities on the importance of local foods and support local farmers through such initiatives.

Apart from the vegetables and Mei-Ramew products stalls, there will be two NESFAS Kitchen food stalls, which will serve traditional Khasi cuisines and Indonesian specialties on Saturday. The international cuisine stall will serve a variety of indigenous food of the Minangkabau community of West Sumatra, Indonesia.

The staff will also host a special indigenous tasting table for the media fraternity.Consumers will also get a chance to buy Mei-Ramew weaves products and millet as well.

The market is an initiative that was started in April 2017 and many more editions have been organised in collaboration with like-minded organisations and institutions.
