North East India is strategically a very sensitive region: V.Shanmuganathan

Shillong,June 24,2016: The Valedictory Function of the 23rd conference of DGsP, IGsP and CPOs of North Eastern States  was held  at Raj Bhavan today with Meghalaya Governor, V.Shanmuganathan attending the function as Chief Guest .

Altogether 42 officials from the police forces and security agencies from the 8 North Eastern States as well as from West Bengal participated in the Two Day Conference. The conference provided a platform for participating officials to share their experiences, best practices on issues and challenges pertaining to internal security and regional coordination among the security agencies and police forces of North eastern states besides issues related to International Border management.

During his valedictory address, the Governor urged upon the participating officials to try not to be complacent in spite of the fact that the overall security in the region has improved in the last three years.

“The time has come for North East to reap peace dividends” he said while stating the fact of North east India, surrounded by international borders, is strategically a very sensitive region in the country.

The Governor further called on all concerned to participate actively in the Act East Policy, an agenda that the two day conference took up for discussion. The role of security establishments in maintaining peace is crucial for the success of the Act East Policy, he stated.
