Railway Protection Force of NFR recovered Drugs worth Rs. 23 lakhs, apprehended 05 persons

Maligaon, March 01:  The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway recovered huge amount of drugs worth Rs. 23.92 lakhs (approx) and apprehended five persons from various trains at different Railway Stations while performing their duties.

In an incident on 24.02.2022, a team of RPF, Dimapur were performing escorting duty at train no. 15666 DN from Furkating to Diphu railway station. At about 09:33 hrs the team apprehended one person with a red colour backpack from a coach on suspicion.

The bag was checked and 20 plastic cases of brown sugar were found. Further the person was detained and handed over at Diphu station to ASI/RPF/Diphu for further proceedings.

Weight was taken of the seized brown sugar and was found to be 240 grams (approx) worth Rs 13.09 lakhs (approx). Later the arrested person with the seized materials was further handed over to OC/GRPS/Dimapur and a case was registered under section 22 (c) NDPS Act.

On 26.02.2022, RPF of  NFR after getting information, seized ganja worth Rs. 5 lakhs (approx) from three different trains. Seventeen packets of ganja weighing about 32 kgs valued about Rs. 3.20 lakhs were recovered from Agartala – Deogarh Express at Badarpur Station.

Two persons were apprehended in this connection and were handed over to OC of the GRP of Badarpur. A case was registered under section 20(b) (ii) (C) NDPS Act. Similarly, one packet ganja weighing about 06 kgs worth Rs. 60 thousand (approx), were found from a coach of Agartala – Silchar Express at Badarpur railway station on the same day.

On another incident, a team of RPF/New Haflong after getting information recovered an unclaimed bag from a coach of Agartala – Bengaluru Humsafar Express on that day. Three packets of ganja weighing about 12 kgs worth Rs 1.20 lakhs (approx) were found inside the bag.

On 27.02.2022, information was received and a team of RPF, Lumding along with GRP,Lumding conducted a joint checking at Lumding Railway Station. At about 8:30 hrs, they apprehended two suspicious persons.

On checking, their bags were found with small containers containing heroin and the weight was found to be 38.88 grams (approx). The apprehended persons along with the recovered heroin were taken into custody by OC of the GRP of Lumding and registered a case under section 21(C) NDPS Act.

Value of the recovered Heroin is about Rs. 5.83 lakhs. The Railway Protection Force of the NFR is actively participating in the drive against prohibited drugs making their contribution towards a DRUG-FREE Nation.
