Rape victim still remain unconscious at Dhubri Hospital in Assam

Tura, July 14: The 28-year-old rape victim of Pipulbari, along
Assam-Meghalaya border village in West Garo Hills was today taken to
Dhubri for medical examination.
Meghalaya police found the victim lying unconscious from a road side
near a forest in Tangoan village, which falls under Mankachar police
station yesterday. The case was later handed over to its Assam
counterpart.
The victim was transferred from Hatsingimari public health centre to
Dhubri civil hospital today.
“Medical examination has been done and the statement of the victim
has been recorded. We are investigating the matter. It would be too
early for me to comment much. We have registered a case under rape
section 276”, said superintendent of police, Dhubri Mridulananda
Sharma.
“So far no arrest has been made. Mankachar police station under
Hatsingimari sub-division is following the case”, he added.
The woman was alone in her house, when a group of 15 unidentified men
barged in yesterday.  The incident took place around 2 am.
Pipulbari village, about 48km from Tura, is under Garobadha police station.
The goons took away gold ornaments, two mobile handsets and Rs 1 lakh
cash. In her statement, she said, “They kept a gun on my forehead and
threatened to kill me. I tried to escape from their clutches but they
chased and caught me. They then put me into a vehicle and drove me to
a nearby forest and raped me”.
Based on her statement, the police have identified Kabir Ali and
Zahirul Islam, who are also from Pipulbari as the prime suspect.(SP News)
