Rescue Operations of SDRF at Tharia Landslides ends after 38 hours, five death nine injured

Umiam, June 18:  The rescue operations of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the landslide at Tharia, Ri Bhoi District has come to an end with the recovery of the body of the fifth victim today in the afternoon. The body of the last victim to be recovered was that of an approximately 52 year old woman yet to be identified. The landslide which occurred yesterday at 5 am claimed a total of five lives and injured nine people.

Having swung into action since 9 am yesterday, the team of 12 jawans of the State Disaster Response Force of the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Meghalaya led by the Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Shillong and Officer in Charge, SDRF worked tirelessly for almost 38 hours along with the personnel of Fire & Emergency Services, Ri Bhoi District Officials and local inhabitants of the area.

According to the Officer in Charge, SDRF, the operations which lasted for 38 hours was stopped after the body of the final missing woman was found today at around 12 noon. She was one amongst two women residents who was reported missing yesterday. The other woman was recovered yesterday at 6:30 pm.
